Town of Chatham Bikeways Committee
Monday, November 28, 2011
Chatham Community Center
Present: Ron Holmes, Steve Wardle, David Widing, Wayne Gould, Karen McPherson, Deborah Swenson, Paul Lagg
The minutes of the October 24, 2011 meeting were approved.
Trail Observations: The trail appears to be in good condition. There is still heavy usage of the trail. Wayne has discovered that the fasteners on the fence boards are not the proper kind to work with a new type of pressure-treated lumber, and that they are rapidly failing due to rust. Deborah Swenson recommended that we write a letter to the Selectmen about the rusting problem and about the fact that the screws are too short for the use (1-½” attaching a 1” board to the post).
By the sewer plant, silt continues to wash down the trail every time it rains. Paul will contact the proper people.
Paul says that he has talked with Dan Tobin about the sign and curb painting at Crowell Road. It should be fixed by spring.
Wayne brought up a situation on the new development across from Marley’s where the developers have eliminated the sidewalk in front of the property. There is no way to walk or ride there without walking into the street.
Tour de Chatham, May 19, 2012. Dan Tobin has said that he will provide trash receptacles as appropriate. We can request other accommodations as we come up with them. Paul is putting together a map for the Tour. He may be able to produce a “flash” map for the website, which would have online links at various points on the map. We can superimpose our map onto Google Earth.
Progress is being made with Kristen at C4.net for the Tour website. A copy of the front page in its current form was shown to the committee. Ron is currently writing content for the front page. Help is needed for the various “buttons” on the front page.
Rack Cards. It would be nice to have Rack Cards fit into the trifold map. The standard sized rack card can be made to fit into the tri-fold. We need to make certain they fit into the map boxes. Non-standard sized rack cards will cost more.
Paul showed again his mock-up of the proposed poster and rack card. We now have permission to use the Chatham 300 logo. Steve and Paul will work on modifying mockup and we will have a 48-hour notice meeting to review. We can sell posters at the event.
Steve Wardle showed a storyboard for a proposed short video. He used photos and a voiceover for the proposed videos.
Committee members will email photos to David and Steve for appropriate use.
The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, December 27th at the Community Center.
The meeting adjourned at 5:30 pm
