IMPORTANT NOTICE: Information shown under the PRELIMINARY FEMA FLOOD MAP pages have not yet been officially adopted by FEMA or the Town of Chatham. FEMA encourages the use of preliminary maps and flood data when those preliminary products show a higher risk than that shown on the effective maps.  The more conservative data should be used to the extent that specific laws, codes, and regulations permit the use of that data.  In no case should less conservative data on the preliminary maps (e.g., location shown in Zone AE rather than VE, lower base flood elevation) be used in place of more conservative data on the effectives.
EFFECTIVE MAPS ARE AVAILABLE TO VIEW AT THE CHATHAM COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPT. AND THE CHATHAM HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT DEPT.
For questions regarding the Flood Insurance Rate Maps or the National Flood Insurance/Community Rating System Programs please contact Paul Lagg at the address listed above.

The National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements.
As a result, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS:
·       Reduce flood losses
·       Facilitate accurate insurance rating
·       Promote the awareness of flood insurance
Chatham is currently rated as a Class 8 community. This rating entitles residents of placeCityChatham to a 10% flood insurance discount. The Community Development Department is available to assist you with questions about FEMA Flood-plain maps and the National Flood Insurance Program. Town staff can also assist you with the following:
