Minutes 08/11/2006
Summer Residents Advisory Committee

Minutes of Meeting of August 11, 2006

Present: Roy Sheldon, Bob Buck, Don Edge, Jill MacDonald, Bill McGagh, Hugh Moulton, Peter Tarrant and Arnold Trebach.

Also Present: The Honorable Douglas Ann Bohman

1. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written.

2. The Committee discussed the Summer Town Meeting. Although there were fewer summer residents in attendance, likely due to the heat, the audience participation was excellent, perhaps the best we have had in some time. Two criticisms, the use of overheads and lack of mobile mikes, which made it difficult to follow on the video, will be addressed next year. Power Point Presentations will be used and we will have mikes for those asking questions. It was also suggested that to increase attendance, we use fewer but larger ads in the paper.

3. Hugh Moulton reported on his examination of the draft zoning by-law rewrite. In particular he noted the difficulty in understanding the changes as a result of the new format being used and that he had found at least one important provision dropped as a result of putting the entire by-law in the new format. Because of these problems, the Committee voted to recommend to the Planning Board that the changes being sought be done as amendments to the current by-law. Hugh Moulton and Roy Sheldon will arrange to meet with Wayne Jostrand and relay the Committee's recommendation.

4. Jill MacDonald reported on the results of the questionnaire on wastewater distributed at that the Summer Town Meeting. Of the 43 respondents, 38 favored sewering the whole town and 39 favored doing the project in 8 to 10 years. Jill circulated the final draft of the Committee's position statement on the Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan for comment.

5. Mark Pawlina, Chatham Chief of Police, briefed the Committee on current issues for the town's law enforcement.

7. The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 am.
