The Town is evaluating engineering proposals for the Final Design and Permitting Phase of the Project (updated 04-29-20).
The Town purchased the waterfront parcel at 90 Bridge Street in 2014. The purpose of the purchase was to provide additional waterfront access opportunities for the public. The site is approx. 4,200 sq. ft. with 162 linear ft. of waterfront containing a licensed revetment and timber pier, and deteriorated boat launching ramp. The licensed timber pier was recently reconstructed to support vehicles for loading/unloading gear from vessels. A portion of the harbor directly fronting the parcel has a valid dredging license for depths to -6 ft. MLW.
Several general concepts for site re-use were described during public discussion of the property’s purchase. It is anticipated the site will provide a mixture of water-dependent public and municipal uses. A concept for possible municipal use is construction of a new facility to house the Town’s shellfish upwelling system, as a pile supported structure, located seaward of the existing revetment. Concepts for site development providing multi-functional public water access include: float systems for temporary public vessel berthing; dinghy storage floats; kayak, and other portable watercraft launching/retrieval; public walkways for viewing and fishing; public restroom facilities; sitting/picnic area; restoration of boat launching ramp; new berthing for US Coast Guard vessel(s); and parking for official and public vehicles. All design alternatives shall consider access for the disabled.
The Town is undertaking a feasibility assessment of various concepts for use of the site in coordination with the Waterways Advisory Committee, Shellfish Advisory Committee, and South Coastal Harbor Plan Committee. These discussions are open to the public and input is welcome. This webpage will make available meeting presentations, minutes, existing information, surveys, licenses and permits, previous design considerations, and data (as available) relative to evaluation of concepts.
