Chatham North Beach Closes to Oversand Vehicle (OSV) Travel

Due to the mild winter and spring Piping Plovers arrived earlier and began nesting earlier than average on Nauset (North) Beach. This earlier arrival/nesting means that some nests are close to imminent hatching activity. As a result, the Chatham portion of Nauset Beach (aka North Beach) will CLOSE to Oversand Vehicle (OSV) travel beginning at 8 AM, Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

While the earlier arrival, nesting, and hatching is problematic for the upcoming holiday weekend it may portend an earlier re-opening for OSV access this summer if the hatching(s) is successful.

All Regulations regarding restrictions on access to endangered species habitat areas, dogs, and other Beach Regulations remain in full force. Your cooperation is appreciated in maintaining beach access.
