The auction will go live on April 11 on the government surplus auction site govdeals.com. The Select Board voted to extend the expiration date for 2021 Nauset Beach Oversand Vehicle (OSV) permits issued to Chatham residents, which were scheduled to expire on April 30, 2022 until June 30, 2022,

This action was taken in response to similar action by the Town of Orleans for resident and non-resident permits to provide consistency among OSV beach goers.

AmeriCorps in Action

AmeriCorps Cape Cod was in Town on Monday (21st) to help with spring maintenance of the Ryder’s Cove Herring Run.

AmeriCorps members assisted Chatham’s Herring Warden, David Peterson, with improvements to the herring run in anticipation of the spring migration of returning river herring.  Work along sections of the streambed to Stillwater Pond and into Lovers Lake included downed tree and brush removal, invasive pruning, removal of shoaled sections of streambed, and pipe repairs.

The work greatly improved efficiencies for fish migration and access along the run to inspect and monitor conditions.  The work was very successful and greatly appreciated!

Cultural Sector Impact Survey Launched

The Mass Cultural Council is conducting a 6th survey of the economic effects of the pandemic on artists, cultural workers, and cultural organizations.

One year ago, Mass Cultural Council reported devastating economic impacts from COVID-19 as reported by Massachusetts artists and cultural organizations between March 2020 and February 2021 through five surveys conducted by the Agency.

As Massachusetts marks the second anniversary of living with the coronavirus pandemic, Mass Cultural Council is launching a sixth economic impact survey for the cultural sector. All cultural sector stakeholders are asked to participate in either the Agency’s COVID-19 Economic Impact Survey for Individuals or the COVID-19 Economic Impact Survey for Cultural Organizations by Friday April 15th on economic impacts from March 1, 2021- February 28, 2022.

The data collected will be used to inform and shape advocacy efforts on behalf of the cultural sector. As an independent state agency, Mass Cultural Council is primarily funded through public resources. Between now and the end of the formal legislative session in July, the state Legislature will be finalizing a number of important bills that could impact the cultural sector, including the FY23 state budget, potential bond bills and supplemental budgets, another ARPA-supported pandemic relief spending plan, and other legislative proposals.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
