Chatham Center for Active Living

On September 13th the Select Board accepted the recommendation of the Council on Aging Board of Directors and voted unanimously to change the name of the Chatham Senior Center to the Chatham Center for Active Living. The name received the most votes in a survey of five suggested names for the facility.

The facility renaming is the first step in re-branding programs and services offered by the Council on Aging to reflect the community's desire for more programming geared to younger 55+ adults.

Suicide Awareness Month

According to the Cape and Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition we lose 35 Cape & Island residents to suicide each year. For each death by suicide it is estimated more than 30 people are affected.

In recognition of the wide-spread impact of suicide on our community, the Select Board proclaimed September Suicide Prevention Month in Chatham.

If you or a loved one are experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of suicide, call 988 to connect with trained call takers for free, confidential emotional support.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
