The Transfer Station is CLOSED tomorrow, Saturday, February 4th, for the safety of our staff and the public due to extreme low temperatures and dangerous wind chill.

SHORE Intern Takes on the FD

The Chatham Fire Department is excited to partner with the Monomoy Regional School District’s SHORE Program to provide an internship opportunity to Chatham resident and Monomoy student, Jessie Horsfall.

The SHORE (Students Have Opportunities for Recreation and Employment) program provides vocational and transitional services to students ages 18-22 with special needs. The goals of the program include career planning, employment training, hands-on work experience, collaboration with families and outside agencies. The program assists students in developing their functional life skills such as money and time management, safety in the community, travel training, vocational training, self-advocacy skills, and functional communication.

The women and men of the Chatham Fire Department look forward to assisting Jessie develop important life skills such as teamwork, organization and community interaction. Jessie will spend her time at the Fire Department integrating with the staff and assisting with routine tasks around the Station. Welcome to the team, Jessie!

New Faces Around Town

It's been an exciting week for Team Chatham as key positions have been filled!

Aimee Howell stepped into the role of Community Services Deputy Director: Recreation and Beaches Division on Monday, January 30th. Aimee has a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Park Management. She is a Certified Park & Recreation Professional, a professional member of the MA Recreation and Park Association and is Youth Mental Health Certified. She comes to Chatham with over 15 years of experience in Municipal Recreation, working for the Town of Plymouth and most recently as the Recreation Director for the Town of Yarmouth.

Today, the Police Department welcomed two new officers who will begin their training at the MA Police Training Council Academy in Plymouth on Monday, February 6th.

Clint Collier comes to Chatham with over 10 years of experience in the United States Coast Guard. There he advanced to the rank of Petty Officer 2^nd Class. While at the Coast Guard, Clint served as a Boarding Officer, Firearms Coach and Law Enforcement Instructor.

James Hamilton is a certified Emergency Medical Technician, most recently working at Coastal Medical Transportation Services. Prior to becoming an EMT, James had an extensive history in private sector security and served as head of security at the Chatham Squire. In his role there, he developed an interest in community policing and a desire to one day join the Chatham Police Department. Mr. Hamilton has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Sewer Construction Feb. 6th-10th

Continued sewer work is expected on Meetinghouse Road, progressing north from the Rt. 28 intersection. A detour utilizing Morton Road is in place. Traffic heading to Commerce Park to be accessed by Main Street.

A delivery of sewer pipe is expected on Monday, February 6th. It will be staged in a portion of the Old Colony Rail Trail parking lot on Meetinghouse Road. Site work is tentatively scheduled at the Meetinghouse Road Pump Station.

Site work will continue on the pump station located at the southeast corner of Queen Anne Road and Oyster Pond Furlong. One travel lane is expected to be closed on Queen Anne Road between the intersections of Oyster Pond Furlong and Route 28. Police detail(s) will be on-site to assist motorists.

No work is expected on Crowell Road this coming week.

Surplus Equipment Auction

The Town of Chatham Harbormaster Division is accepting bids for surplus boats, dinghies, and prams. Interested parties can view and bid on items through Auctions International.

All items are sold “AS IS” without warranties of any kind, and fitness for a particular purpose, and may be in need of some repairs. Bidding is open through February 9, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.

The surplus supplies will be awarded to the responsive bidder offering the highest price for the items. The Town of Chatham reserves the right to reject any and all bids and dispose of an item through a negotiated sale, provided that the negotiated sale price is higher than the highest bid received from a responsive bidder.

Successful bidders are expected to render payment through Auctions International.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Select Board is accepting applications for two unique opportunities to serve our community.

Applications are being accepted from individuals interested in serving as Chatham's representative ton the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission. This is a two year appointment made by the US Secretary of the Interior. The Select Board will vote to forward their nomination to the Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent on February 21st.

Applications are also being accepted from individuals interested in serving as a Chatham representative on the Monomoy Regional School Committee until the next Annual Town Election scheduled for May 11th.

Applications may be submitted online through the Town's website.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
