Public Hearing - Water Rates

The Chatham Select Board, acting as Water & Sewer Commissioners, will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room at the Town Office Annex, 261 George Ryder Road to consider a change to water rates for households with a second irrigation meter installed.

The Town's Water & Sewer Advisory Committee is recommending an annual base fee of $35 for households with a second meter on an irrigation system rather than a base fee charge of $35 in each of the summer billing quarters.

Area Closed Buoy Signs

The Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge is deploying a new type of sign on the west side of North Monomoy Island to indicate shorebird habitat areas closed  - buoys!

The hope is the buoys will hold up better to weather, wind, and waves than the metal posts and signs used in the past. If they fare better in this relatively sheltered area, they will be set out in areas that experience more wind and waves next season with the ultimate goal of using the buoys in areas of higher wind and wave action in conjunction with traditional metal poles and signs. Keep an eye out for them and please stay outside of closed areas.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
