Housing Development Proposals Available for ReviewThe housing development proposals received by the Town for the properties located at 1533 Main Street and 0 Meetinghouse road have been posted to the Housing Office webpage for the public's information and review. The Evaluation Committee's recommendation to the Town Manager, acting as Chief Procurement Officer, on developer selection will be the subject of a joint meeting of the Select Board and Affordable Housing Trust Board of Trustees on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Town Office Annex, 261 George Ryder Road. The submitting agencies will present on their proposals and public comment on the proposals will be received. See agenda below for link to join the meeting.

SAFE & Senior SAFE Grants ReceivedThe Chatham Fire Department has been awarded two grants by the MA Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Department of Fire Services in support of fire and life safety education for school-age children and older adults. The Department received $4,700.00 from the Students Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) and $2,200.00 from the Senior SAFE Grants programs. The SAFE grant program has supported firefighter-educators who deliver age-appropriate fire safety education to kids and teens across Massachusetts since 1995. In 2014, the Senior SAFE program which is geared toward older adults in 2014.

Railroad Museum Opens for SeasonThe Chatham Railroad Museum opens for the season on Tuesday, June 11th at 10 a.m. with an enhanced Chatham Railroad exhibit featuring models of the South Chatham and West Chatham stations. The Museum will be open June 11th to August 31st, Tuesdays - Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and September 7th to October 13th, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ATTENTION CYCLISTS! Don't miss a special talk by Gil Sparks at the Museum on June 15th at 10 a.m. as part of History Weekend. You'll receive a copy of the 1915 railroad timetable, learn about the railroad's history and locations of the South and West Chatham stations and enjoy a ride along the Old Colony Rail Trail.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles at CQX TomorrowChatham Municipal Airport celebrates its Diamond Jubilee on Saturday, June 8th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the 9th Annual Open House - a day of "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," and so much more! The Airport was first used in 1929 as a barn-stormers stopping off point when they toured the region. It's history spans the early days of aviation through today's modern era and has been the launching point for many who have learned how to fly at CQX and gone on to careers in the military and airline industry. Please join us, First Responders, and representatives of numerous civic and community organizations in celebrating this community asset. There will be static aircraft displays, antique & classic cars and trucks, live music, face painting, kids area and food trucks, too! Don't miss this unique community event!

312 Years of History to CelebrateHistoric Chatham's History Weekend runs next weekend, June 13th - 16th.
Kick-off the summer season by learning about Chatham's Museums, historic places, and rich history. There will be special lectures, new exhibits, and reduced admissions in may of our museums.
The Godfrey Windmill in Chase Park will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and if wind conditions are favorable the mill will be set in motion to grind corn just as it did centuries ago.

2024 Harbor Update June 15thThe 2024 Harbor Update will be held on Saturday, June 15th from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Chatham Community Center, 702 Main Street. The update will feature presentations by Chatham Harbormaster Jason Holm, Harwich Harbormaster John Rendon, representatives from USCG Station Chatham, Cape Cod Sail and Power Squadron, and USCG Auxiliary previewing the summer season. Learn about what's new on the water and in our harbors and see how navigation has changed since last summer. No registration is required for this free, open-to-all event hosted by the Monomoy Yacht Club.

CC Commission Hearing on CQX VMPA subcommittee of the Cape Cod Commission will hold a virtual public hearing on Tuesday, June 25th at 5 p.m. to consider a Development of Regional Impact (DRI) Major Modification request as filed by Chatham Municipal Airport for its Safety Improvement Project. The Airport seeks modification to the Commission's 2005 DRI Decision (CCC No. 04012) to incorporate an updated Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) to remove or manage vegetation for compliance with federal and/or state safety regulations. This Major Modification is subject to review pursuant to Sections 12, 13 and 23 of the Cape Cod Commission Act, as amended, and section 11(b)(iii) of Chapter A, Commission Regulations Governing Reviews of DRIs, as amended. At this hearing the subcommittee will hear testimony, discuss the project, and may vote on the Major Modification. Hazardous Waste Collection SaturdayYour next chance to get the household hazardous waste material out of your shed, basement, or garage is tomorrow, Saturday, June 8th. Chatham residents may bring their household hazardous waste to the Harwich Transfer Station, 209 Queen Anne Road, Harwich from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Food 4 Kids Free LunchesThe Food 4 Kids free lunch program resumes at the Community Center, 702 Main Street, on Monday, June 24th. The child does not have to be enrolled in Chatham’s summer recreation program to come and enjoy a free meal and meals are provided to every child/teen age 18 or younger. Daily menus and meal times can be found on the program's website. Food 4 Kids also gives out 5 – 7 free children’s books daily! If a child receives a golden coupon with their meal, they may choose a new book to take home and keep. These books are not just good reads – they are carefully chosen to be age-appropriate and to speak to diversity and inclusion.

Dehumidifier Turn-in EventIs that old dehumidifier not quite cutting it this year? Recycle it with the Cape Light Compact at their Dehumidifier Turn-In event on Saturday, June 15th at KAM Appliance, 6 Aggregate Way in Hyannis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and receive a $30 rebate. Limited to two dehumidifier turn-in rebates per residential electric account per year. Sorry, commercial accounts are not eligible. Dehumidifiers must be sized for residential applications (20 to 70 pints) and be in working condition to be eligible. The Cape Light Compact offers a variety of rebates and incentives to eligible residential account holders. The MainsheetThe name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community. In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
