Mandatory Water Conservation

While we have had some needed rain recently, mandatory water conservation restrictions remain in effect.

Outdoor watering is restricted to odd-numbered calendar days for odd-numbered addresses and even-numbered calendar days for even numbered addresses. Outdoor watering is  limited to 1” (one inch) or less per watering event and is limited to the 6 PM to midnight,  except for in-ground irrigation systems which are limited to midnight to 6AM. Please, no washing of sidewalks or driveways.

Failure to comply with these mandatory measures will result in fines. For the first offense you will receive a warning. For a second offense, a $100 fine will be imposed and for a third offense the fine is $200.

Please abide by these mandatory restrictions to protect the Town’s drinking water supply. While these restrictions apply to those on the Town’s public water system, we ask that those with private wells take these measures into consideration as we all draw from the same aquifer.

Energy and Climate Action Committee

On June 22nd the Board of Selectmen supported a proposal from the Energy Committee to change its name and the scope of its work. The Committee is now the Energy and Climate Action Committee

The charge of the Chatham Energy and Climate Action Committee is to reduce the community’s contribution to climate change, with a focus on ensuring our energy infrastructure is cleaner, leaner, and more resilient, and to prepare, coordinate and execute mitigation actions and adaptation strategies that anticipate and respond to the effects of climate change.

The Committee will work in cooperation with other Town Board and Committees, as well as Town employees, in carrying out its charge and will also seek the cooperation and assistance of relevant governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and the public.

The Committee is a seven-member advisory committee to the Select Board and it has two vacant seats. If you are interested in energy conservation and the impacts of climate change on our region, please apply to serve.
