Planning Board Public Hearings

The Planning Board will hold public hearings on three proposed Protective (Zoning) Bylaws at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 27th in the Large Meeting Room at the Town Office Annex, 261 George Ryder Road, and remotely through Microsoft Teams.


The proposed amendments all pertain to West Chatham. The first proposes West Chatham Neighborhood Center Zoning,  the second a Zoning Map Amendment for the West Chatham Neighborhood Center District, and the third proposes amendments to the R20 Zoning District - Runway Protection Zone (RPZ).


In accordance with Town policy the public can speak to any issue/hearing or business item on the agenda during the meeting when recognized by the Chair.


The final proposed Protective (Zoning) Bylaw amendments will be added to an upcoming Select Board agenda for consideration for placement on the 2023 Annual Town Meeting warrant.

Sewer Construction Continues

Road work for the week of February 20-24:

Sewer work continues on Middle Road. The road is closed to thru traffic - motorists are being directed to exit via Sam Ryder Road.

Sewer work will commence on the Old Colony Rail Trail beginning at the Water Pollution Control Facility and proceeding west towards Meetinghouse Road. The bike path will be closed to bikes and pedestrians between the entrance of the Water Pollution Control Facility and Meetinghouse Road from Monday, February 20 - Wednesday, February 22. The bike path is expected to reopen to cyclists and pedestrians on Thursday, February 23 with police details in place to assist users through the immediate area of construction.

Work will continue on the Queen Anne Road pump station at the intersection of Queen Anne Road and Oyster Pond Furlong. Police details will be in place as needed to facilitate traffic and assist motorists. 

Register To Vote!

The deadline to register to vote in the Town's 2023 Annual Town Meeting on May 6th and the Annual Town Election on May 11th is Wednesday, April 26th until 5 p.m.


You can register to vote at the Town Clerk's office, 549 Main Street, or online through the Secretary of State's Online Voter Registration System.

Travel (Virtually) To Lisbon

Join fellow armchair travelers at the Center for Active Living (or from home) on Wednesday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. for this virtual tour led in real-time by Beeyonder tour guide Ines.


Ines will lead you on a walking tour of Alfama, one of the oldest districts in Lisbon. You'll visit the viewpoint of Portas do Sol (Doors of the Sun) and walk down the narrow streets while learning about St. Vincent and his connection to the city's history, the Tagus River and its importance to the city's development, St. Anthony festivities held in June, and ever hear a fado, the region's traditional song.

Volunteers Needed!

Love Your Local Water, It's a Cape Cod Thing!, the organization that organizes and operates household hazardous waste collection events across the Cape, is seeking volunteers for the upcoming collections season.


Hazardous waste collections happen on Saturdays from April through October across the Cape. Locally, these events are held at te Harwich Transfer Station, 209 Queen Anne Road.


If you want to help protect or regions water, consider lending a hand to greet participants and hand out educational brochures. Email Kalliope Chute or call 508-375-6699 to sign up.

Shark Tales Lecture Series

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is offering a "Shark Tales - A Lecture Series" on the fourth Wednesday of the month in February, March, and April at 6 p.m. at the Shark Center, 235 Orleans Road.


On February 22nd they welcome Michelle Passerotti, a fish biologist with the NOAA Fisheries Northeast Fisheries Science Center Apex Predators Program, based in Narragansett, RI. Her work focuses on life history research of large coastal and pelagic shark species in the Atlantic.


Registration is required. The cost of admission ($20 per person) includes a complimentary glass of wine or beer. Guests will also have time to explore the Shark Center exhibits and learn about the natural history of sharks in our area, ongoing white shark research, and the role of sharks in the marine ecosystem.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
