Transfer Station Closed Sunday

The Transfer Station will be closed this Sunday, April 9th to allow staff to spend the Easter  holiday with family and friends. The facility will re-open at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Upcoming Road Work

The Town has been notified by the State that Old Harbor Road/Route 28 from the rotary to Shore Road will be restricted to one lane traffic Monday, April 10th through Friday, April 14th from approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for grinding and re-paving.

Message boards, signage, and police details will be in place to direct traffic.

Sewer work will begin on Mill Hill Road on Monday, April 10th. Traffic will be limited to one lane alternating traffic pattern. Work may continue on Meetinghouse Road/Route 137 from the intersection with Route 28 north to Middle Road. A detour on Morton Road will be posted if necessary. Site work will continue at the Meetinghouse Road pump station.

On Monday, April 10th sewer work is expected to take place on Crowell Road in the vicinity of 251 Crowell Road. A Police detail will be in place to assist motorists. Work on Tuesday, April 11 through Friday, April 14th will be confined to the Town's Public Works site with no impacts to traffic.

Register to Vote Today

The last day to register to vote in the 2023 Annual Town Meeting and Annual Town Election is Wednesday, April 26th, until 5 p.m. Don't wait until the last minute!

Annual Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 6th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Monomoy Middle School Gym, 425 Crowell Road.

Annual Town Elections will be held on Thursday, May 11th at the Community Center. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Online voter registration is available through the Secretary of State's website.

Police Chief Mike Anderson

In Case You Missed It

Police Chief Mike Anderson joined State Representative Steven Xiorhos (5th Barnstable) on the Ed Lambert Show on Monday, April 3rd to discuss the Cape's School Resource Officer Network. 

Also discussed were two bills sponsored by Rep. Xiorhos (HD64, HD700) which address school safety.

2023 Beach and Transfer Station Stickers

Resident 2023 Beach, Transfer Station, and Combination stickers are now available for purchase online. Stickers will begin mailing in mid May. 2022 stickers are valid until June 30th.

Mail-in forms for Recreational and Commercial Shellfish permits are available on the Town's website. North/Nauset Beach Over Sand Vehicle (OSV) stickers will be available in late April. 

The Sticker Office located on the lower level of the Town Office Annex, 261 George Ryder Road, is currently on an off-season schedule and is open Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Produce Distribution

Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, Inc. will be distributing boxes of fresh produce to individuals 60 years of age or older residing in Barnstable County.


Each box is free of charge and will contain produce from CapeAbilities Farm. The produce will be distributed via a "grab and go" on Tuesday, April 25th between 12 noon and 1 p.m. at Elder Services of Cape Cod, located at 68 Route 134, South Dennis. There are a limited number of boxes to be distributed so reservations are required by Monday, April 17th at 3 p.m. Please call the Nutrition Department at Elder Services at 508-394-4630 ext. 412 to reserve yours!

HOME Consortium Action Plan

The Barnstable County HOME Consortium has prepared its draft Annual Action Plan for Program Year 2023. The plan outlines funding priorities and serves as the strategic and planning documents for Barnstable County's HOME Program which is funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

An in-person public meeting on the draft Annual Action Plan will be held on Monday, April 24th at 3:00 p.m. in the Innovation Conference Room at the Barnstable County Complex, 3195 Main Street, Barnstable. The purpose of the meeting is to obtain oral and/or written comment from the public on the Plan. 

The Plan will be available for review online on April 10th. Requests for hard copies of the Plan should be directed to Rennie Hamman.

Written comments on the Plan should be sent to Barnstable County Department of Human Services, PO Box 427, Barnstable, MA  02630 or emailed through May 11, 2023. Comments will be summarized and included in the final Plan submitted to HUD.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
