Tax Bill Misprint

The Town's bill print vendor erroneously printed "First Half" on the recently issued Real Estate and Personal Property Tax bills instead of "Second Half." All other information including amounts, due dates, etc. is correct. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Airport Commission 75th Anniversary Logo

In Case You Missed It

The Chatham Airport Commission held a public information session on Wednesday, April 10th to update the community on its work to address common concerns about operations at the Chatham Municipal Airport (CQX).

Commissioners discussed updates to CQX's Fly Friendly Noise Abatement program including the implementation of a voluntary 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew, introduced the Commission's new website, reviewed the obstruction removal project, and discussed the update of the Airport Approach Zone map which will be considered at 2024 Annual Town Meeting.

If you were not able to attend  in-person or remotely, the session was recorded and is available for on-demand viewing through both Chatham TV's on-line meeting archive and its YouTube channel.

Property Ownership Requirements for Over Sand Vehicle Permits

To be eligible for a Chatham Resident North Beach Over Sand Vehicle (OSV) permit, the applicant must be a legal resident of the Town or an owner of property in the Town.

Applicants must be listed in the Assessors' files (property owners) or the Town census (residents). The Assessors' Database may be reviewed online and the Town census may be reviewed in-person at the Town Clerk's Office. If an applicant is not listed in either, additional documents proving residence or ownership are required.

In the case of a property held in trust, the Trustees are eligible as property owners, however, beneficiaries of the trust are not deemed to be owners of the property and, accordingly, are not eligible for an OSV permit unless they provide written documentation to prove they are current Chatham residents. Please note, Trustees must be listed as the property owner in the Town  Assessors' Database to be eligible for a sticker.

QR Code to access the Housing Production Plan Survey

Last Chance for Housing Survey

Don’t miss your chance to take the online housing survey! The survey, which is available through Sunday, April 14th, is designed to gather community feedback and perspectives on Chatham’s housing availability, affordability, and needs for the development of a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment and update to the Town’s Housing Production Plan.

The survey provides an opportunity for community members to provide feedback directly to questions on our housing issues and challenges, and about the community’s needs and desires for affordable and attainable housing in Chatham.

Access the survey by scanning or clicking on the QR code above or at https://tinyurl.com/ChathamHPP. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Following the closure of the online survey, housing consultants JM Goldson will develop a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment based upon community feedback received from the survey as well as that from the Community Housing Visioning Forum held on March 20th. The resulting Housing Needs Assessment will be presented at a future meeting of the Affordable Housing Trust and will form the basis for the Housing Production Plan update and its goals and actions.

Town Manager Jill Goldsmith

Ask the Town Manager

Q: Is there a way to see who has registered a short-term rental with the Town? What is the penalty if rental listings are posted without this (local) registration posted with the listing?

A: The Short-Term Rental Registry required by the Board of Health's Short-Term Rental  Regulations is a public document and may be requested under the Public Records Law. It is not, however, posted publicly on the Town's website. Per the Regulations, the Town-issued registration certificate number is required to be included in any listing offering the short-term rental for rent. Any owner found in violation of any provision of the Regulations may be punished by a fine of two hundred dollars ($200.00) per day. Each day that the violation continues shall be considered a separate offense.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
