Judy Giorgio

Health Agent Giorgio to Retire

Judith Giorgio has announced her retirement, effective July 17, 2026, after 22 years of service as Chatham’s Health Agent.

Judy began her career in public health as a Senior Sanitarian with the Town of Framingham in 1987 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from UMass Amherst. She earned her Master of Public Health in 1991 and served as the District Sanitarian for the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health from 1991-1998 when she began her employment as the Town of Dennis Health Agent, serving in that capacity until coming to Chatham in 2004.

Retirements are always bittersweet. We are thrilled for Judy as she steps into the next phase of her life, but sad to lose such a respected colleague. Please wish Judy well if you see her around Town this spring!

Climate & Energy Survey Results are In

The Town of Chatham’s Department of Natural Resources and its Energy & Climate Action Committee and the Chatham Climate Action Network recently partnered to develop and publish two surveys: a Community Energy Survey and a Climate Risk & Resilience Survey.

Nearly 300 community members shared their thoughts on energy use, climate risks, and how the Town has been addressing these risks and how it can prepare for future challenges. The surveys offer a helpful snapshot of what matters most to our community and will help guide local planning and programs in the months ahead.

A full summary of and graphs depicting the survey results is now available.

Manhole Cover with Chatham Sewer imprinted on it

Please, Be Sewer Savvy!

The Town’s Sewer Division of the Department of Public Works is asking all individuals whose homes are connected to the municipal sewer system to take a few moments to become sewer savvy.

Recently, a number of our sewer pump stations have been clogged by foreign matter that should never enter the system, whether flushed down a toilet or poured down a drain. The pumps are designed to handle water, human waste, and tissue paper only.

Examples of items that can lead to clogged sewer pumps if disposed of into the sewer system are cloth rags or towels; baby wipes, toilet wipes, towelettes, or disinfecting wipes of any kind even if the container indicates they are flushable; any paper other than toilet tissue; medications; feminine hygiene products; beauty products such as swabs or cotton balls; plastics of any kind; fats, oils, or grease of any kind; pesticides or fertilizers; kitty litter; paint, varnish, paint remover; motor oil, gasoline, or any hazardous material.

Clogged pumps lead to backups which can enter homes and are expensive to clean and repair, the costs of which are borne by sewer rate payers and property owners.

Select Board Vision Statement

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
