The Town of Chatham seeks year-round full-time Senior Heavy Equipment Operator – Transfer Station. The position performs all functions at the Chatham Transfer Station, including, but not limited to, operating heavy equipment and machinery, preparing recyclable materials for shipment, operating the gate house and scale, and maintaining appearance and cleanliness of the Transfer Station. A HS diploma or equivalent req’d, + 3 years similar experience and valid MA driver’s license, CDL-A, Public Weigher Certificate, MA Hydraulic license 2A or 2B, and general understanding of HazMat handling. DEP Surplus Paint Training desired. 40 hr/wk Grade 5 in Chatham Municipal Employees Association. Weekend shifts and emergency snow & ice removal duties required. $25.16/hr to $30.66/hr. Laborer/Recycling Assistants, DPW

The Town of Chatham seeks Seasonal Full-Time (40 hrs/wk) Laborer/Recycling Assistants. Position performs a wide variety of functions in support of all divisions of public works operations, including, but not limited to Solid Waste Transfer Station/Recycling, roadside and road surface prep & maintenance, drainage system repair and installation, seasonal landscape construction and maintenance, public facility site improvements, event set-ups, and waste and traffic control; Responsible for daily pick-up of trash and recyclables and general safety and maintenance of public facilities; Addresses routine problems and reports issues requiring additional time or resources; Must be courteous and efficient. Min. reqs.: HS diploma or equivalent; one year’s prior exp. with a municipality or a commercial landscaping/construction company, w/ exp. using hand & power tools; valid MA driver’s license w/ clean driving record; CDL preferred. Lead Seasonal Wharfinger

The Town of Chatham Harbormaster Division seeks qualified a candidate for the position of Lead Seasonal Wharfinger.  Responsibilities include management and oversight of the Municipal Fish Pier, including facilitating proper pedestrian, vehicle, and vessel traffic; enforcement of Fish Pier Regulations, local Waterways By-law and associated Regulations, issuance of citations, and supervision of 2 other Seasonal Assistant Wharfingers. Includes monitoring Docking Permits, tenant leases, and vessel use of Town docks, piers and floats. Requires HS diploma or equivalent; strong interpersonal skills; current CPR, AED, and water safety certification; and demonstrated small-boat handing skills. Current or past public safety experience preferred. Seasonal position runs April through November. Variable shifts, including evenings and weekends. FY19 pay range under the Chatham Personnel Policies Grade 2 classification is $20.53/hr to $25.02/hr, depending on skills and experience. Position is not eligible for benefits and is subject to 7.5% mandatory OBRA (MA SMART Plan) deferred compensation contributions, in lieu of Social Security or pension deductions.

Chatham seeks qualified individuals to join our Summer Team! Seasonal indoor and outdoor positions with early morning, mid-day and afternoon shifts available. All positions subject to CORI review. Most positions available from June through Labor Day (9/2/19). Pay rates range from $12.00/hr up to $20.00/hr. Year-Round, Full-Time Superintendent, DPW

The Town of Chatham seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of working Public Works Superintendent. Position reports to the Director of Public Works and coordinates closely with Foremen for each of the Department’s 5 Divisions (Highway, Transfer Station, Water & Sewer, Parks/Grounds and Facilities) Responsibilities include organizing and coordinating the day to day operations of the Public Works and Facilities Departments to include task/project prioritization, resourcing, and scheduling/assignment of staff, equipment and materials, based on resources available.  Manages the maintenance of infrastructure assets through a work order system, while using data for performance management. Employee is expected to be the first respondent for departmental emergency operations (snow, wind, rain events);  Gives direction to contractors, agents and subordinate co-workers for work as needed, to accomplish all work assigned in Highway, Transfer Station, Water/Sewer, Parks/Grounds and Facilities Divisions; Coordinates closely with all Departments and Divisions and serves as internal information liaison; Requires demonstrated ability to convey complex issues and conditions effectively both orally and in writing and to relate regulations and procedures to staff and the general public; Must have excellent cooperation and communication skills to coordinate between multiple municipal divisions to ensure that scheduling and assignment of personnel, equipment and other resources meets current and planned needs; Responsible for ensuring labor, materials and logistical support to new and existing projects and events; Serves as compliance officer for contracts, policies and protocols; Compiles reports on work accomplished, work pending, and any barriers to completing assigned tasks; Provides cost and material estimates, tracking resources and expenses, managing assets, directing vendors (if used), and obtaining proposals with written specifications for maintenance, repair and construction projects. Minimum HS diploma, with a Bachelors’ degree preferred, and a min of four (4) years’ practical experience and working knowledge of public construction/maintenance, engineering, and storm water control structures, including installation techniques. Supervisory skills must be substantiated by references; Requires current valid Massachusetts CDL and DOT Hydraulic Hoisting Licenses. Massachusetts Construction Supervisors’ License and public procurement training are preferred. This is a full-time (40+ hrs/wk), year-round position, working M-Th 7:00a – 4:00p, and Fridays 6:00a – 12:00p, under the Chatham Managers Association union, with an expectation of on-call hours. FY 2020 Grade 8 pay range $66.705.60 to $81,265.60/yr. (paid bi-weekly) Eligible for benefits and pension plan.

Year-Round, Full-Time Laborer, DPW

Requires a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, CDL preferred. This is a 40 hr/wk Grade 3 position within the Chatham Municipal Employees Association. Weekend shifts and emergency snow and ice removal duties are required. FY 2019 pay range is $21.78 to $26.53/hr, plus OT, insurance benefits and pension eligibility.

Accounting Clerk

The Town of Chatham seeks qualified individual with prior accounting, payroll and benefits administration experience to fill the position of Accounting Clerk/Staff Assistant at the down-town Municipal Offices. This is a year-round 35 hr/wk position offering insurance and pension benefits. Responsibilities include data entry and system maintenance to support the general municipal accounting functions, generating and distributing monthly departmental expense reports, apportioning monthly utility invoices, maintaining data bases and records, and providing general administrative backup for Town Hall staff and payroll. Town currently uses VADAR/ Sage ABRA financial and payroll software. The position requires a high school diploma, a minimum of two years’ experience with secretarial, accounting and/or payroll functions, a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of citizens and internal staff, and a demonstrated ability to accurately manage databases, word processing applications, and spreadsheets. This position is subject to the Chatham Municipal Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. The FY19 pay range is $23.41 to $28.51.

Year-Round, Part-Time Intermittent Environmental Testing Technician

Chatham seeks trained technician to perform field testing and lab analysis to measure the quality of Chatham’s coastal waters, ponds, estuaries, and groundwater. Frequency of testing varies throughout the year, and is heaviest during the summer months. Position requires a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, or natural resource science or equivalent in education and experience, and at least 2 years of field and lab experience with water quality measurements, bacterial/organic testing and monitoring. Requires a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. FY2020 pay rate is $24.32/hr under the Town of Chatham Personnel Policies. This position has intermittent hours not to exceed 19/wk and is not benefits eligible.

Year-Round, Part-Time Intermittent Recording Secretary

Chatham seeks qualified Recording Secretary/Clerk to provide clerical and secretarial services for various boards and committees of the Town of Chatham. Committee meetings are typically in the late afternoon or evenings, and as a policy of the Town, the meetings are video recorded. The recording secretary will summarize the meeting activity and votes into succinct minutes for review and approval by the Committee at a subsequent meeting. Requires at a minimum a high school diploma, proven ability with computer-based word processing and electronic correspondence applications, proven ability to accurately document the proceedings and actions taken at public municipal meetings. Must have good communication and public service skills. The FY 2020 Grade 3 pay range under the Town of Chatham Personnel Policies is $22.62 to $27.57/hr. The position is intermittent in nature with an expectation of less than 20 hours per week; not eligible for insurance benefits.
